Like any skill worth mastering, relationships require intentional effort.
A few ways to practice include:
Be present. Listen without an agenda. Often, the greatest gift we can give someone is our full attention. (No devices!)
Show up consistently. Do not wait for a crisis or a transaction. A quick check-in, a note of thanks, or remembering a birthday goes a long way.
Give more than you take. Offer help, share insights, make introductions, all without expecting anything in return.
Invest in the long game. Relationships do not pay off overnight, and they are not meant to. Think years, not weeks.
Shouldn’t business leaders focus on strategy over relationships?
Stay tuned.
