Sixth in a series.
Sherry is the best community organizer I’ve ever met. I first worked with Sherry on the creation of JavaOne, a conference for the notoriously elusive tech-developer audience. Sherry had a knack for creating spaces and content that anticipated their needs, supported fun, meaningful engagement, and resulted in amazingly cooperative productivity.
More than anyone else I’ve met, Sherry knows how to reach the hearts and minds of a community. She gets there by doing the work—talking to people, showing up, asking questions, and approaching everything with a deep sense of empathy.
That became her superpower when she co-founded the global network of Maker Faire events. She saw what worked, what didn’t, and what people wanted more of; she continuously enhanced events to deliver better outcomes for the individual and community needs.
That’s what continues to make her invaluable at The Freeman Company as Head of Community. Whether she’s building connections between internal groups or establishing bridges with academia to reach and attract college students, she infuses people with her passion for innovation and community building. Best of all, she’s fun to work with. And that’s why I love Sherry Huss.
