1. Lessons In Leadership

Are You Open to Feedback?

Be self-aware and open to feedback. The four most-dreaded words in any relationship may be, “How do I look?” It feels like a no-win question – like some form of emotional entrapment. But as professionals, we often do the same thing to each other. We ask for feedback that we don’t really want and then we resent the input.

Open to Feedback

It helps to be self-aware – to understand our own strengths and weaknesses and what motivates us to seek input in the first place. Are you truly looking for new insights and ideas, or simply seeking a compliment? Don’t ask for an opinion you don’t intend to consider with respect. And don’t disrespect anyone brave enough to give you the honest feedback you’ve asked for. Try this – find someone you trust, ask their opinion, and listen carefully.
